If you passed through Bonaventure metro station on Wednesday, you might've noticed that the benches that run alongside the entrance corridor were covered with wooden planks.

Benoit Langevin, Critic for Homelessness and Youth for the official opposition on city council, took to Twitter to expose the covered benches, which are usually a popular congregating spot for unhoused Montrealers.

An online petition created by Accent Montréal, which asks the City of Montreal to do more to protect the French language in the city, such as only publishing municipal documents in French, has been gaining traction recently.

The petition currently has over 10k signatures.

When it comes to locals who make their mark on Montreal, Balarama Holness is at the top of the list. Holness is a Grey Cup championship winner, the founder of Montreal in Action, and currently in the process of finishing up his law degree at McGill University.

Black Montrealers are much more likely to be arrested by an SPVM anti-gun squad than other groups, according to a report by Concordia University professor Ted Rutland.

The report found that 74% of all persons charged by the Quiétude squad — a team of about 20 investigators — were Black while 19% were white. 6% were non-Black people of colour.
