A petition to save Pigeon Hole Park, one of Old Montreal's few green spaces, has over 1,000 signatures and counting.
In February, the city approved a real estate project that would see the park turn into a seven-storey building with 229 residential units as well as commercial space.

"It is not at all in harmony with the century old stone buildings all around," the petition reads. "[It] would overshadow the beautiful architectures of the first Montreal Stock Exchange (currently the Centaur Theatre), the Telegraph building, the Sun Life Annex building, amongst others."
However, according to the city's Planning Advisory Committee, the proposed material — concrete frames with sections of limestone punctuated by bronze anodized aluminum — is "directly inspired by that found in Old Montreal."
The site is part of the Montreal Heritage Site, and the project will require authorization from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications.
