Montreal musical artists can audition for the same program that discovered Nelly Furtado
Do you dream of becoming the next Nelly Furtado, Jully Black, LU KALA or Haviah Mighty? If you're a Canadian female musical artist between the ages of 14 and 25, you can actually audition for the same program that helped launch their careers.
Honey Jam, a multicultural artist development program dedicated to empowering and promoting emerging women artists in Canada, is coming to Montreal for the first time to hold pop-up auditions.
"Montreal has such a vibrant arts and cultural scene," said Honey Jam founder and producer Ebonnie Rowe, who was born in Montreal herself. "We can’t wait for the opportunity to hear some of the city’s incredible musical talent."
Those who make it into the Honey Jam program will gain access to mentoring, education, vocal coaching, performance opportunities and networking opportunities with industry professionals.
The 29-year-old program, run by PhemPhat Entertainment Group, offers a platform for artists to gain exposure and develop their talents. Honey Jam organizes everything from songwriting camps to workshops, and facilitates access to music industry conferences, artist talks and more.
"Honey Jam is definitively an amazing program where you can get discovered, learn new skills and grow as an artist," said June6xteen, a Montreal singer-songwriter who participated in Honey Jam in 2022.
"Opportunities are always knocking at your door during your cohort but also for years after. Honey Jam is a real forever family. Once you enter the community, you are part of it for life and can benefit from promotion and opportunities to attend industry events. Being part of Honey Jam also connects you to other emerging artists, and long-lasting relationships are created."
The Montreal Pop-Up Audition is open to female artists of all genres (so long as you're within the required age bracket). The auditions are set to take place on May 5 at Le Ministère.
Selected artists will be invited to participate in Honey Jam’s artist development program, culminating with a performance in Toronto on August 29 in front of music fans and members of the industry.
