A tragic accident involving a snowplow and pedestrian with a baby occurred late on Monday afternoon in the small town of Cacouna in Quebec's Bas-Saint-Laurent region. According to information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), a mother pushing her baby in a stroller was fatally struck by a snowplow at around 4:45 p.m. while she was walking along Route 132 in blustery, snowy conditions.
While the mother, unfortunately, lost her life, her baby survived and only sustained minor injuries.
According to the SQ, the snowplow hit them from behind. The mother was later declared dead at a local hospital.
As for the baby, it escaped the tragedy with only minor injuries and was also brought to the hospital but survived the accident.
The SQ is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
"The weather was bad and there was strong wind and lots of snow falling," said an SQ representative. The sector is also not well-lit according to the officer.
"The baby was lucky despite everything," said the SQ.
