Quebec Director Denis Villeneuve Wanted To Add 'Tabarnak' To The 'Dune 2' Script
It (sadly) did not make the cut.

Quebec director Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two has been taking cinemas by storm following its March 1 release.
The film features major Hollywood actors including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin and Florence Pugh, to name a few, all of whom appeared on the red carpet during the film's premiere at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Most of the cast, including the film's director Villeneuve, have been promoting Dune: Part Two, through public appearances and interviews and one, in particular, stood out from the rest.
Denis Villeneuve spoke with Buzzfeed Canada at the Montreal premiere of the new film on February 28, sharing how there was one word he really tried to add to the script. And it's the most Quebec thing ever.

"I was convinced that if I was able to put the word 'tabarnak' in one of the movies, it would please the people of Montreal," Villeneuve said.
Considering "tabarnak" is the quintessential Quebec curse word, it would have been iconic for Villeneuve to slip it in at one point. However, it didn't sound the way it was meant to and the iconic Quebec swear word did not make the cut.
"I asked Josh Brolin to use the word at one point and it didn't work out. It doesn't live well in the mouth of an American," Villeneuve explained. "I'm sorry. I failed."
While it may not have been possible this time around, Villeneuve isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so we just might be able to spot a "tabarnak" or two in one of Villeneuve's future films.
