The Montreal area is getting another way to beat the heat this week. The popular Saint-Zotique Beach is officially reopening to the public on June 24, Saint Jean-Baptiste Day. The government of Quebec allowed public and private beaches in the province to open beginning on June 22.\n"The countdown has begun!" the beach wrote on its Facebook page following the announcement.\nSaint-Zotique, about an hour southwest of Montreal on the Saint Lawrence River, is a tropical escape close to home.\nThe sandy beach features thatched-roof cabanas that make it look like a Caribbean retreat — perfect for a day trip for those who are missing the annual vacation south this summer.\nIn years past, the beach has also had a number of additional activities, like volleyball, a floating obstacle course, and boat rentals.\nThis year, organizers are imposing some restrictions to keep visitors and staff safe and healthy.\nAccording to its website, the beach is now only allowed to welcome a maximum of 2,500 people per day. Swimmers are asked to change into their bathing suits before arriving.\nThose presenting COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to use any of the aquatic installations.\nOn the sand, each household will have their own designated area to avoid contact with others.\nOrganizers also ask that visitors wear a mask when it's not possible to stay two metres away from other individuals.
