A Whale Was Spotted Swimming Past Montreal In The Saint Lawrence River Â

A humpback whale was spotted swimming up the Saint Lawrence River in the spring of last year, first spotted near Montréal-Est before making its way to the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
The whale later died near Varennes, and an art fixture was installed at Parc de la Promenade Bellerive in its honour.Â

Montreal Is Getting Its Own Black Lives Matter Street Mural On Ste-Catherine

Montrealers took to the streets to protest systemic racism in Quebec and around the world after the murder of George Floyd in late May.
Artists and community organizers would later paint a mural on Rue Sainte-Catherine in Montreal's gay village, reading "La vie des noir.e.s compte," or Black Lives Matter. The street mural was removed in October by the city.
An Actual Bat Flew Through A Montreal Hospital This Week & Shut Down 5 Operating Rooms

In a display of peak 2020, a literal bat flew into a wing of Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital last fall, forcing hospital staff to shut down five operating rooms, as the province grappled with the strain of COVID-19 on Quebec's health care system.
The CIUSSS told MTL Blog that the dilapidated state of the hospital was most likely how the bat made its way in.
