Canadians are known for being polite and it seems as if the stereotype isn't too far from being true. Condé Nast Traveler recently ranked the most friendly cities in the world, and Canada completely dominated the list. In fact, four Canadian cities made the cut, all of which were included in the top five.

Condé Nast Traveler released the winners of its annual Reader's Choice Awards, highlighting the best of the best in travel and hospitality, and Canada gained some much-deserved recognition.

When it comes to measuring the most welcoming countries around the globe, there's really no formula to follow to land on one specific destination. However, according to the Passport Index, there's a sure way to answer this seemingly impossible question. The most welcoming countries are those with the least strict border restrictions.

Passport Index ranked the most welcoming countries in 2023 based on how many passports each country accepts visa-free, with visa on arrival or with eTA. The study lists a total of 83 positions, with several positions including multiple countries, ranked from the most welcoming to least welcoming.

Canada was an also-ran in recent rankings for the best country in the world, and, alas, it apparently isn't the safest country either. A new ranking published by The Swiftest measured the 50 most (and least) deadly travel destinations of 2022 and Canada's placement makes it clear we've got some work to do.

The ranking compared seven factors of the 50 most visited countries by tourists including homicide deaths, injury life years lost, and natural disasters, to name a few. The separate scores from each factor are then used to calculate a "travel safety index."
