It seems as though the COVID-19 rollercoaster in Quebec isn't slowing down anytime soon. Quebec COVID-19 cases saw two daily records break recently — 3,768 new cases on December 16 and then 3,846 new cases on December 18.

And now, another highest-ever daily case count was reported today. The data for December 19 shows 4,571 new cases, which is 725 more cases than yesterday's record-breaking numbers.

The rise in the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Quebec doesn't look like it'll be slowing down anytime soon... The Government of Quebec has admitted to its concern of the presence of the Omicron variant, and with seemingly good reason since the province just broke another record of new daily cases of COVID-19 reported for December 18.

The ministry of health recorded 3,846 new cases in the last 24 hours, with a rise of 29 hospitalizations, including five more people in intensive care.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a total of five travellers entering Quebec were infected with the Omicron variant.

The government announced Tuesday that it's updating Canada's border rules in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant, which the World Health Organization (WHO) has labelled a "variant of concern."

The update includes the introduction of arrival testing for all fully-vaccinated travellers coming by air from places other than the United States and a mandatory quarantine for these travellers until they get their results.

Ontario's chief medical officer, Dr. Kieran Moore, said at a press conference Monday that Canada's first confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus variant Omicron arrived in the country by way of Montreal.

The two infected individuals are now in Ottawa after "recent travel from Nigeria," according to Dr. Moore. He said they underwent testing in Montreal and that officials in Ontario received their results from counterparts in Quebec.
