The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) is steering Montrealers away from traffic jams this month and onto the scenic St. Lawrence River with the launch of the 2024 river shuttle season. The water taxis serve as a full-fledged commuter service, designed to make city travel smoother and more enjoyable.

With ongoing construction clogging critical points like the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, the re-introduction of the shuttles is a timely option for daily travellers looking for a break from the gridlock.

Montrealers will be able to cruise on the Saint Lawrence once again this summer. Six river shuttle routes will transport commuters and recreational travellers between Montreal Island, Île Sainte-Hélène, Île Charron (home of the Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville) and the South Shore this year, the regional transit authority, the ARTM, announced recently.

Planners behind Montreal's proposed REM de l'Est have released an animation showing what the elevated light-rail project could look like along boulevard René-Lévesque downtown.

Critics of the project have bemoaned the network's proposed path through Ville-Marie, arguing it would be a disruptive presence, particularly in Chinatown.

If you're heading to the South Shore from Montreal this week, the Jacques Cartier Bridge may not be your best option.

Part of avenue Papineau that leads to the bridge, between Ontario and Sherbrooke, has been blocked off since the discovery of a sinkhole on Monday morning. While repairs began soon after, it's unlikely that the street will reopen until later this week.

One of the wildest places to get ice cream near Montreal just unveiled its new menu — and it's as over-the-top as you'd expect from Le Bleu, which is located in Longueuil on the south shore.

The new menu is called "Fantasy Island" and, according to a post on Le Bleu's Instagram page, it was designed with the goal of "celebrating back to school + the end of an amazing summer with a touch of magic."
