This Canadian City Is The Best Place To Live In Canada With High Paying Jobs & Affordable Housing
The best places to live in Canada were recently ranked and while the true north has much to offer coast to coast, one Canadian city stood out from the pack.
Top Move, an online Canadian moving service, conducted its own research to find the best city in Canada to live in 2024. The ranking is based entirely on a scoring system from 1 to 10.
Top Move included data about the average monthly salary after tax, house prices per square meter and the overall cost of living in each city.
According to the moving company, lower cost of living and cheaper home prices contributed to higher scores, while lower average salaries decreased the score of a specific city.
So, which Canadian city is the best place to live in 2024?
Per Top Move's study, Calgary, Alberta is the best city to live in Canada thanks to its affordable housing and high-paying jobs. The west coast city scored a total of 9.8 out of 10. Calgary earned its top spot with cheaper house prices of around $745 per square meter, which was the lowest figure on the list.
The moving company also discovered that those who move to Calgary can expect a high salary. On average, people make $4,500 per month in Calgary, marking one of the highest salaries in this ranking.
Halifax, Nova Scotia managed to rank second with an overall score of 8.9. While home prices in Halifax are slightly more expensive than in Calgary, it's still relatively affordable at $880 per square meter. Top Move noted how Halifax's cost of living hovers around the $1,450 a month per person range, which is impressive when compared to more expensive cities in Canada.
Ottawa (7.9) and Montreal (7.5) were next up, ranking third and fourth, respectively. According to the study, both Canadian destinations offer high salaries after taxes and a relatively lower cost of living.
Toronto (7.4) ranked fifth overall, which may come as a surprise considering how expensive Toronto has come to be. Luckily, the city scored in the top five thanks to its high-paying jobs and salaries, which stand at $4,600 per month, the highest average salary on the list.
