Bad news, Montreal — Toronto has beat us once again in a QS University Ranking. This time, the University of Toronto has McGill beat in every category in the new "World University Rankings By Subject."

The report looked at five broad subjects: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.

In a lengthy Facebook post published on February 13, Quebec Premier François Legault vowed to use governmental means to protect free speech in Quebec universities, after expressing worry about "radical activists [who] are trying to censor certain words and works."

The premier said Quebec's minister of higher education, Danielle McCann, has already begun working with Quebec universities to "act quickly" to address censorship — which he referred to as "a problem that began in our universities."

A group that says universities promote "hatred towards white people" wants to set up a "White Students Union" at Montreal's McGill University to, in its words, "advocate for the interests of that ethnic group towards whom expressions of hatred are not only tolerated but promoted by our universities themselves."

The idea was brought forth by Students for Western Civilization, a group that says it "advocates for the rights, interests and identity of European-Canadians."
