High-end Montreal-born fashion boutique WANT Apothecary is the latest casualty of what some call the "retail apocalypse," after announcing on March 5 it would close all its brick-and-mortar shops.

The clothing and fashion accessories chain is pivoting to e-commerce with a focus on its own brand, WANT Les Essentiels.

"We are excited to announce that we will be focusing all efforts on our house brand, beginning with a new website launching in April and ready-to-wear collections releasing throughout the year," stated the company.

"As we pursue this vision, we’ve decided to close our WANT Apothecary locations and consolidate both WANT websites to wantlesessentiels.com. This new experience will be the digital home for WANT Les Essentiels and stock several of the skincare, beauty and home brands you know and love."

The flagship store, located at 4960 rue Sherbrooke in Westmount, closed in early April.

The going-out-of-business sale continues online (while supplies last) with savings of up to 80% on brands such as "Acne Studios, Jil Sander, Totême, Marni & more," according to the store website.
