Air Canada Vacations Is Offering Free COVID-19 Insurance For Trips To The Caribbean

Air Canada is trying to make it easier to travel.

International travel is still not recommended by the federal government, but travel fever can be hard to extinguish, even during a pandemic. Now, Air Canada Vacations is offering free COVID-19 insurance for its sun destinations to make getting away a little bit easier. The travel booking company made the announcement on Monday in a press release.

The new travel insurance plan is a collaboration with the German insurance company Allianz Global Assistance.

This coverage will be offered at no additional cost to travellers booking some sun destination vacations through Air Canada Vacations.

This insurance will cover "emergency medical and quarantine expenses if COVID-19 is contracted while travelling," the press release states.

It will also apply even if the government's travel restrictions are still in place.

The plan is "aimed at providing travellers with greater confidence to book their next dream vacation," says Air Canada Vacations.

"As Canadians look forward to travelling again, safety while abroad is top of mind for travellers more than ever before," Allianz Global Assistance Chief Executive Officer Chris Van Kooten said in a statement.

"Air Canada Vacations' customers can once again travel with confidence and enjoy their holiday to the fullest with peace of mind about COVID-19 related medical emergencies."

The insurance covers costs of up to $100,000 including medical care, accommodation costs associated with quarantine, ambulance transportation and repatriation.

Quebec-based competitor Air Transat has yet to answer Narcity Québec's questions about whether it will offer a comparable package for its customers.

"We're pleased to be the first Canadian tour operator to ensure coverage is in place for emergency medical and quarantine expenses relating to COVID-19," Nino Montagnese, Managing Director at Air Canada Vacations, said.

"We look forward to continuing to work with Allianz Global Assistance to turn our customers' travel dreams into reality."
