The Capitale-Nationale region continues to deal with what the regional public health director called a "concerning" situation. The public health authority confirmed to MTL Blog Thursday morning that Quebec City karaoke bar Kirouac's COVID-19 outbreak is now responsible for 40 primary and 10 secondary cases. Some of the secondary cases are also linked to recent isolations in schools in the region.

On Tuesday, Dr. Jacques Girard, interim director of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale, "[appealed] to citizens' sense of responsibility to respect the health measures in place, especially when there are gatherings in the presence of alcohol."

50  Cases Linked To Quebec City Bar Kirouac

The outbreak linked to the bar was part of the reason why, in a turn of events, the Quebec City region beat out Montreal for the most newly reported cases on September 1.

National Public Health Director Dr. Horacio Arruda also addressed the situation at a press conference on Wednesday.

He advised Quebecers to not do any karaoke but said he would need to evaluate whether to outright ban it in the province.

Karaoke, he explained, tends to get people to gather close together. Participants also eject particles from their mouths when they sing — an easy way to spread the novel coronavirus.
