Quebec Is Planning New Immigration Pilot Programs For Workers In 3 Sectors

On Wednesday, Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration Nadine Girault announced the publication of three "draft regulations to implement three pilot programs" for permanent Quebec immigration for workers in three sectors:

• "a first one intended for the beneficiary attendants;

• "a second one for people working in food processing;

• "and a third in the field of artificial intelligence and information technology and visual effects."

These actions will enable immigrants to contribute fully to the development of Quebec society.

The programs "will come into force when they are enacted by the Minister, following their publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec for a 45-day consultation period," according to a statement.

All three "aim to attract and retain people whose skills meet the specific needs of the Quebec labour market."

The pilot for beneficiary attendants, specifically, is intended to address a "critical shortage." The government pointed to "significant labour needs" in the food processing sector, as well.

Quebec also wants to attract "international talent" in artificial intelligence, information technology and visual effects.

The three five-year programs will each allow for the selection of up to 550 applicants, along with accompanying family members, every year.

In a statement, Minister Girault said that these new programs will "make the immigration system more efficient, in keeping with our commitments."
