The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has released its summary of its work to secure the roads during the two-week construction holiday, which ended August 3. In total, the Quebec police force handed out 22,143 statements of offence, 13,754 of which were for speeding.

Officers also carried out 508 screenings for impaired driving. A total of 336 were caught driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

13,754 speeding tickets issued by the SQ during the construction holiday

Collisions and deaths have dropped significantly from last year.

The SQ recorded 490 crashes resulting in harm in 2020, a 26% decrease from 2019. 8 deaths have occurred — half the number in 2019.

Police say "speed, distraction, and impaired driving remain the three main causes of collisions."
