3 More Municipalities In Quebec Will Be Entering 'Red Alert' As Of Monday At 11:59 p.m.

They are all found in the region of Gaspésie.

As the second wave of the pandemic continues to sweep across the province, the Ministry of Health and Social Services announced on Sunday, October 4, that three new municipalities will now also be entering Quebec's "red alert."

"Given the evolution of the epidemiological situation in certain sectors of the Gaspé Peninsula, it is announced today that three municipalities in the MRC d'Avignon will move to the red level (maximum alert)," reads a government press release.

This will come into effect as of 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 5.

We are moving the municipalities of Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle to the red level.

Christian Dubé, Minister of Health and Social Services

Thus, the cities of Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle will have to comply with the measures put forward by the health authorities in the case of maximum alert.

"Over the past few days, we have noted a worrisome increase in confirmed cases in certain sectors of the Gaspésie," said Dubé.

These three municipalities will be joining Greater Montreal, certain sectors of Chaudière-Appalaches and parts of the Capitale-Nationale in the red alert.

In the event of a maximum alert, several rules must be applied, including:

- Gatherings in private homes are prohibited,
- Group activities organized in a public place are not permitted,
- Activities carried out in several locations are suspended,
- And non-essential travel to a green, yellow or orange region and outside of Quebec is not recommended.

Rule breakers will receive fines of $1,000, according to Premier François Legault.
