The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a brand new coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of Canadian author L. M. Montgomery, the creator of Anne of Green Gables.
The new loonie is the first ever Canadian circulation coin to feature an author on its reverse. Now, collectors can purchase a special wrap roll containing 25 coins with the same engraved view of the L. M. Montgomery.
The reverse of the coin, designed by Canadian artist Brenda Jones, features an etching of Montgomery around the time Anne of Green Gables was written, along with the author's signature and the cat drawing she often included in inscriptions.

The coin design flows from the view of the author putting pen to paper to that of the novel's eponymous heroine gazing out at Canada's Prince Edward Island, which was the idyllic setting for Anne of Green Gables — all of which stands as a tribute to the power and imagination in Montgomery's life.
The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

The coin is currently available for purchase on the Royal Canadian Mint's website, and while its face value is $1 ($25 for the entire special wrap roll), it will cost you slightly more to get your hands on it. The roll of coins can be purchased online for $54.95.
It's also important to note that the special wrap roll (colourized or non-colourized) is the only way to obtain the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of L. M. Montgomery $1 coin directly from us. A 99.99% pure silver coin is also available to collectors.
With a mintage of 10,000 coins, the new loonie has a weight of 6.27 grams and a diameter of 26.5 millimetres.
