The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a brand new Canadian coin worth $300, featuring platinum and rose gold maple leaves.

Titled "Maple Leaf Forever," the new Canadian coin has a reverse-proof finish that focuses entirely on the classic and multifaceted maple leaves. The reverse design features two sugar maple leaves: a classically rendered leaf in the background, and a multifaceted one in the foreground.

The rose gold plating on the rim frames the engraving and highlights the foremost leaf, creating a striking colour contrast. Per the Royal Canadian Mint, the multifaceted engraving uses highly reflective and geometric-shaped facets to give it its shape and key design element.

The maple leaf in full view is made up of a rose gold finish, while the leaf in the back is 99.99% platinum — making this the very first platinum coin featuring multifaceted engraving and partially plated multifaceted design, crafted in a proof finish that allows light to reflect from each and every angle.

As for the obverse of the coin, the rim is also plated with rose gold and features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.

The new Canadian coin has a weight of 31.16 grams and a diameter of 30 millimetres. Considering how rare the platinum coin collection is, the mintage is limited to just 425 coins in 2024.

While the coin's face value is $300, it will cost you a lot more to get your hands on it.

The Royal Canadian Mint is currently awaiting stock, and collectors will soon be able to purchase the new coin online for $3,099.95. The Mint also offers buyers the option to pay up to six monthly installments of $516.66.

After purchasing the new coin, it will arrive encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded, red lacquered wooden case with a black beauty box.
