Canada Has A New $10 Coin Featuring Golden Maple Leaves & It's So Shiny (PHOTOS)
The coin is made up of 99.99% pure gold.

A pile of Canadian coins including toonies ($2 coins), loonies ($1 coins), quarters, dimes, nickels, and discontinued pennies.
The Royal Canadian Mint released a brand new 10-dollar coin featuring golden maple leaves on the new coin's reverse.
The new Canadian coin, titled 1/20 oz. Pure Gold Coin — Everlasting Maple Leaf, symbolizes the collective strength of Canadians, the Royal Canadian Mint said on its website.
"While a maple’s spring colour display is sweet and subtle, the sight of its mighty summer leaves basking in the sun brings renewed appreciation for this arboreal emblem."
The reverse of the new coin was designed by artist Lisa Thomson-Khan and features a flowing arrangement of sugar maple (Acer saacharum) leaves that "embody Canadian pride," the Mint said. The coin also features a reverse-proof finish, with a frosted field that contrasts with the engraved mirror-like shine.

Additionally, the coin's reverse is almost reminiscent of the discontinued Canadian penny, thanks to the use of maple leaves.
The obverse of the new Canadian coin features the effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.

With a mintage of 3,000, the new $10 coin has a weight of 1.58 grams and a diameter of 14.1 millimetres. Now, while the face value of the new coin is $10, it'll cost you more to get your hands on it.
The coin can be purchased on the Royal Canadian Mint's website for $289.95. Once purchased, your coin is encapsulated and presented in a black Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box.
Coin collectors have already taken to the Mint's website to share their thoughts on the new coin.
"My collection is coins new and old and this unique gold coin is merely something I liked and wanted to add due to low mintage numbers," one reviewer wrote. They went on to say that while it's definitely worth adding to one's collection, the new coin is, in fact, "small."
