Canada Post is hiring 170 on-call letter carriers in Greater Montreal — no French required
Looking for a job in the Montreal area? Canada Post is hiring 170 on-call letter carriers (also known as delivery agents) in Greater Montreal, including downtown, the South Shore, the West Island, Saint-Laurent and Laval.
No French is required and you'll be paid well above minimum wage.
"We deliver billions of items to Canadians each year — and you can be a big part of making this happen," Canada Post writes in the job posting. "You’ll be the face of Canada Post in your community and make sure customers and businesses get the mail and parcels they’re waiting for."
According to the national postal service, you'd be a great fit for this role if you're a people person who enjoys being outside and active year-round and who "would be proud to serve your fellow Canadians."
The gig essentially entails sorting and preparing the day's mail at the depot, loading it up into a Canada Post vehicle and then driving around to make deliveries for most of the day — both by car and on foot. At the end of the day, you'll return to the depot to "unload the day's incoming mail and packages for later delivery," the job posting says.
In exchange for these tasks, you'll earn $22.68 per hour.
So what qualifications are required?
You don't need French per se, but you do need to read, write and speak either French or English. You should also have a valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence with a safe driving record for at least three years, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds as well as carry up to 35 pounds throughout the day.
Experience with customer service, making deliveries or working as a driver helps, too, but is not required.
While this is a temporary position to start, Canada Post says "you’ll have the opportunity to grow with us and obtain a permanent position … even try out new jobs in different areas of the company" — so you may be able to turn this on-call role into a career further down the road.
You can apply on the Canada Post website. Don't wait too long because applications are only being accepted until April 30.
