Mayor Valérie Plante recently announced the city's plan for winter in Montreal, unveiling new winter "resorts" in 17 boroughs as well as winter sporting activities at every major park.

All major parks will have cross-country skiing, hiking and snowshoeing trails. 

This year, you'll also be able to reserve equipment, such as snowshoes, online — free for Montrealers 18 and under.

With winter on the horizon in Quebec and the COVID-19 pandemic pressing on, Montrealers will likely be unable to partake in many of the winter activities they know and love including the Montreal Snow Festival, which is cancelled. 

However, Mayor Valérie Plante announced the city's plan to roll out new winter activities for the pandemic for the entirety of the winter season.

Montreal's municipal government released its budget for 2021 today, and it includes a 10-year vision for the city rather than the typical three. Over the next 10 years, the city plans on spending a total of $18.69 billion on major projects, averaging out to approximately $1.9 billion per year.

While the majority of funds are set to be spent on things like buildings and parks, the city is allocating 4.9% of its budget — a total of $907 million — to.... drum roll please... office furniture and equipment.

In a press conference on October 21, Montreal public health director Mylène Drouin recognized the mental health impacts of COVID-19 on the city's young population. 

She said that over 45% of young Montrealers — aged 18 to 29 — believe they have mental health issues resulting from COVID-19 related issues, according to a survey by the city's public health department.
