On October 1, the Quebec government updated its list of economic sectors that will be affected by new red zone rules and business closures. The closures were implemented as of 12:00 a.m. and will run through October 28.

The closures come in the wake of 933 new COVID-19 cases reported on October 1, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in Quebec to 75,221.

On September 28, the provincial government announced that Montreal will be entering Quebec's COVID-19 red zone for 28 days, starting on October 1.

Premier François Legault outlined which businesses will remain operational and which will close during the red zone period. Businesses in the arts and culture industry were among the closures — hitting theatre companies, museums and cinemas particularly hard.

Drivers, prepare yourselves to swim in yet another sea of orange cones and road closures in Montreal this weekend. The Quebec Ministry of Transport has announced that the city's Turcot Interchange will have even more traffic closures this weekend. Drivers are in for another few days of headaches but hey, unlike the traffic, at least the Turcot project is moving along, right? 

The Ministry said that "major obstacles will be put in place in the area of ​​the Turcot and Saint-Pierre interchanges during the weekend of September 11, including Complete closure of Route 136 (A-720)/Autoroute 20 westbound between the Ville-Marie tunnel and the Saint-Pierre interchange."
