The convenience store chain has announced a one-day incentive, taking 10 cents off per litre off on gas at participating locations. Customers can get the discount through a coupon that will be given out for one day, on May 16, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

As of April 25, several Montreal restaurants, cafés, and bars have been hit with health inspection fines from the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation au Québec (MAPAQ) for reasons including sanitation issues, staff hygiene, food quality as well as preparation and processing standards.

Following its inspection of three Couche-Tard locations across Montreal, the MAPAQ penalized the convenience stores with a collective $10,500 health inspection fine.

Ever since cashierless dépanneur Aisle 24 opened its first Montreal location in the Cité du Multimédia neighbourhood in 2021, the company has been quietly expanding. Now, it's preparing to open its first Quebec stores outside of the metropolis.

The 24-hour convenience store works via an app. Users have to create an account and use the app to unlock store doors. After shopping, they use a self-service checkout kiosk to pay with a mobile device or card.

If tap-to-pay wasn't enough innovation for you, McGill's Retail Innovation Lab has launched a contactless payment system that uses cameras throughout the store to track your purchases, with no human interaction required.

The lab, which is also a functioning Couche-Tard on McGill's downtown campus, provides researchers from the Bensadoun School of Retail Management the opportunity to test new retail strategies in a real-world setting. It's one of the first "retail laboratory stores" in Canada to be open to the public, per the lab's website.

Couche-Tard is the latest company to either pull out of or pause work in Russia in protest of President Vladimir Putin's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. The Quebec-based company said on March 7 that it's suspending operations in all its stores in Russia effective immediately.

The 38 stores in Saint Petersburg, Murmansk (in northwestern Russia) and Pskov (southwest of Saint Petersburg near the border with Estonia) were operating under the Circle K brand.
