Premier François Legault will hold a 5:00 p.m. Quebec press conference on Thursday, December 30 as the province grapples with an ever-increasing number of new COVID-19 cases.

Quebec reported 13,149 new infections on December 29 — shattering the previous daily record, 12,833 cases, reported just 24 hours earlier. The record before that, 9,397 cases, was less than a week old.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Addressing spiking COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Omicron variant in Quebec, Premier François Legault announced that, as of Monday, "high-risk activities" including dancing, karaoke, and office parties will once again be "forbidden" in the province.

The ban on high-risk activities, which Legault said "bring outbreaks," is just one of the new measures the premier introduced at a press conference on Thursday evening.

Premier François Legault announced a list of new Quebec health rules in light of a skyrocketing number of new cases. Among the new rules is a cancellation of the province's earlier expansion of private gathering capacity for the holiday season.

While earlier in December Legault announced that Quebecers would be able to host parties with as many as 20 fully-vaccinated people as of December 23, he said Thursday that capacity would remain at 10 people.
