It may be a sad end for one of the whales that visited Montreal earlier this month, but maybe not. The carcass of a minke whale was spotted by a fisherman in the waters of the Sainte Lawrence River near Contrecoeur, in the Monteregie, just under an hour north of Montreal.

RQUMM members have been sent to the area to try to locate it. In a press release, the organization said it could be the same small whale that's been seen passing Trois-Rivières and Varennes in recent days.

In 2020, a female humpback whale met a tragic end after spending days near Montreal's Old Port and Parc Jean-Drapeau.

A whale was spotted in the Saint Lawrence River near Montreal on May 8, Robert Michaud, president of the Groupe de recherche et d'éducation sur les mammifères marins (GREMM) confirmed to MTL Blog.

This is the second whale sighting near Montreal in recent years. In 2020, a humpback whale captivated the city after travelling hundreds of kilometres upriver. Its breaches near the Old Port warmed the hearts of pandemic-weary Montrealers.

The Sûreté du Quebéc (SQ) seems to have a big problem on their hands, a big white fluffy problem.

Quebec provincial police are currently warning residents of a possible polar bear sighting in the Madeleine-Centre region of the northern coast of the Gaspé peninsula.
