Quebec residents can receive payments from these government benefits and credits in June
With June right around the corner, Quebec residents should prepare to receive a set of new benefits and credit payments from both the Government of Canada and Retraite Québec.
Inflation is high and the cost of living in Quebec is soaring, so it's no surprise that many residents are looking for ways to earn extra money, whether through work or financial assistance programs from the Canadian and Quebec governments. A few of the benefits being paid out in June include the Canada Child Benefit, Quebec Pension Plan and Quebec public-sector pensions.
It's important to verify your eligibility for many of the benefits and credits being sent out this month, as you could be entitled to thousands of dollars.
Here are six government benefits and credits to look out for:
Quebec Pension Plan (QPP)
The Québec Pension Plan (QPP) is a mandatory public insurance plan for workers aged 18 and over with annual employment income exceeding $3500, providing basic financial protection in retirement, death, or disability, according to Retraite Québec.
The QPP, similar to the Canada Pension Plan, consists of a base and an additional plan since 2019. The additional plan raises the income replacement rate from 25% to 33.33% and increases the maximum pensionable salary to 114% of the maximum pensionable earnings by 2025.
In 2024, contributions to the QPP are 10.8% for the base plan and 8% for the additional plan, both split equally between employers and employees, while self-employed workers cover both portions. All contributions are collected by Revenu Québec.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
The CPP retirement pension is a monthly, taxable benefit that partially replaces your income upon retirement and is payable for life if you qualify, the Canada Revenue Agency indicates.
To be eligible, you must be at least 60 years old and have made at least one valid contribution to the CPP, either through work in Canada or via credits from a former spouse or common-law partner.
In 2024, the maximum monthly amount at age 65 is $1,364.60, while the average monthly amount for new retirees at that age in January 2024 was $831.92. The exact amount you can receive depends on your individual circumstances.

Old Age Security (OAS)
The Old Age Security pension is a monthly payment available to Canadians aged 65 and older. Service Canada may automatically enroll you if sufficient information is available, notifying you of your enrollment status. If not automatically enrolled, you may need to apply after turning 64.
Employment history does not affect eligibility, so you can receive OAS even if you have never worked or are still working. To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or legal resident, have resided in Canada for at least 10 years since turning 18 if living in Canada, or for at least 20 years if living outside Canada.
Canadians aged 65 to 74 years can receive up to $713.34 per month, while those aged 75 and up can receive $784.67.

Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
The Canada Child Benefit, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency, is a tax-free monthly payment to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under 18. It may include the child disability benefit and related provincial and territorial programs.
To qualify, you must live with a child under 18, be primarily responsible for their care, be a Canadian resident for tax purposes, and you or your spouse must meet specific residency or citizenship criteria.
If your adjusted family net income (AFNI) is under $34,863, you receive the maximum amount: $7,437 annually ($619.75 monthly) per child under six years of age, and $6,275 annually ($522.91 monthly) per child aged six to 17.

Veteran Disability Pension
The Veteran Disability benefit is a tax-free financial payment supporting the well-being of those with service-related conditions. The amount depends on the severity of a condition and its impact on quality of life, per the CRA.
Eligibility includes Canadian Armed Forces members or veterans, RCMP members, WWII or Korean War veterans, and certain WWII civilians. Applicants must have a diagnosed condition linked to their service.
Benefits include the Pain and Suffering Compensation, available as a lifetime monthly benefit or lump sum, and the Disability Pension, which provides a lifetime monthly benefit with increased amounts for dependents.

Public-sector Pension Plan (RREGOP, RRPE)
The Government and Public Employees Retirement Plan (RREGOP), mandates contributions from regular and casual, full-time and part-time employees in the education, public service, and health and social services sectors until they accrue a maximum of 40 years of credited service or until December 30 of the year they turn 69.
The plan uses years of service for both pension calculation and eligibility, with full-time work throughout the year equating to a full year of credited service, and part-time work calculated proportionally.
In 2024, the contribution rate is 9.39%, with contributions required on pensionable salaries exceeding certain thresholds based on the maximum pensionable earnings (MPE) and adjusted for credited or harmonized service.
For those who collect a pension and opt for direct deposit, the public-sector retirement pension will be paid on the 15th of each month for the rest of your life, per Retraite Quebec. If the 15th falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, your pension will be paid on the preceding business day. If you opted for payment by cheque, then.the payment will be issued no later than 48 hours before that date.
