Thérèse-De Blainville Police Say They Broke Up A Mall Dance Party With 30 Maskless People

At a Rosemère shopping mall this weekend, nearly thirty people are alleged to have gathered to have a dance party without masks or social distancing. Much like a scene from Footloose, the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville says it quickly stepped in to stop the spontaneous dance-off and disperse the crowd.

A police investigation is now ongoing.

18 Offence Reports Issued By Police

Police say the dance started at 3 p.m. on Saturday and lasted about five minutes. The dancers were quickly dispersed by local police and the mall's security officers, according to a report

Once the police arrived, the report states, the majority of the participants put on their masks and boogied away from the action.

Police say the "main instigator of the event was identified" and served three citations for organizing the event and not respecting the health measures.

"A minimum" of 18 offence reports will be filed. According to the government's regulations, fines of $1,000 can be served if people don't respect the rules.

The Régie de police Thérèse-De Blainville said that it's "possible that additional general violation reports will be produced in the coming days."
