The best hospitals across the globe were recently ranked and when it comes to the top health centre across Canada, two Canadian cities managed to outshine the rest.
Newsweek released its 2024 list of The World's Best Hospitals and partnered with Statista to compile the annual ranking. The list includes data on 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries including those from Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
According to Newsweek, each hospital's score derives from an online survey of over 85,000 medical experts and post-hospitalization patient feedback, covering general satisfaction. Additionally, metrics on hygiene, patient/doctor ratio, and the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) were factored in to narrow down the top 250 hospitals worldwide.
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester ranked number one globally, with Ohio's Cleveland Clinic ranking second.
The Toronto General—University Health Network scored third worldwide and first across Canada with an overall score of 88.9%. In fact, Toronto hospitals occupy the top four of the best hospitals in Canada.
The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre ranked second best in Canada, while the Mount Sinai Hospital and North York General Hospital in Toronto ranked third and fourth, respectively.
