If you're dreaming of a European winter escape but don't want to blow your budget on a plane ticket, you're in luck. You can get a little taste of winter abroad at this cozy small town that's just a road trip away from Montreal.

With snowcapped mountains, warm cabins, cracking fires and small town charm, this destination is a magical spot for a winter vacation.

Lake Placid is a dreamy town nestled in the heart of the New York State's Adirondack Mountains. It's about a 2 hour drive from Montreal, making it a convenient spot for a winter weekend getaway or longer escape.

The destination is brimming with European charm and Swiss Alps vibes, and you'll feel as though you're on a winter trip abroad without a lengthy plane ride.

It hosted the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games and you can visit some of the Olympic Legacy Sites like the Lake Placid Olympic Center and Lake Placid Olympic Museum while in the area.

The town was even named one of the 20 "most beautiful winter towns in the U.S." by Travel and Leisure in 2023, so you can expect some major snowy-filled charm during your visit.

There are endless outdoor adventures to enjoy, from snowshoeing to snowboarding and skiing along the Adirondack Rail Trail. There's also a Skyride with towering views and toboggan chute for the ultimate winter thrills.

The Main Street is brimming with cozy vibes and will whisk you into the "into the heart of après-ski," according to the Lake Placid website.

You can get totally pampered at one of the spas, indulge in hearty cuisine and check out the charming local boutiques dotted along the frosty streets.
