Spring is about to get greener and tastier at the Montreal Botanical Garden. The Great Gardening Weekend from May 24 to 26 promises a plant-packed extravaganza with unique greenery, new edible varieties, and practical tips on eco-friendly gardening.

A range of workshops (free with admission) will help enhance your green thumb. Topics include incorporating herbs into landscaping, growing mushrooms, and keeping plants in a small apartment.

You can also attend discussions on pollinator conservation, urban greening, local food access, and eco-grazing to get personalised advice on how to upgrade your green space.

Experts will offer tips on landscaping, plant care, and floristry. Plant societies specializing in everything from bonsais to gladiolas will be available to consult. Espace pour la vie, the organization behind the event, will also have a booth giving guidance on how to boost biodiversity around your home.

Foodies will find plenty to enjoy too. A variety of plants, including native, edible, decorative, and aquatic options, are available. Mushroom growing kits, hydroponics gear, and even cricket manure will be among this year's offerings.

The Great Gardening Weekend runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 24, 25, and 26. Regular tickets to the Botanical Garden cover admission. Right now, prices are reduced due to greenhouse renovations, so Montrealers can enter for $15.75 and out-of-towers can reserve entry for $20.75. Espace pour la vie passport holders can snag free entry.

Just remember to pack enough reusable bags to haul all your new plants and goodies home. Oh, and don't forget to check if your borough is dishing out giving away free gardening supplies.
