Montreal winter is usually synonymous with snow sports, but the city will soon swap snowy slopes for skateboarding ramps. On February 22, Le Taz Skatepark in Saint Michel is hosting the Bell National Street Skateboarding Championships that will set the stage for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
The competition is a rare opportunity to see Canada's top skateboarding talent, including Olympic hopefuls, compete on home soil. If you're looking for high-energy sports action, this is an event you won't want to miss.
Organized by Canada Skateboard, the championships will showcase the best of street skateboarding, with participants demonstrating tricks and skills in a highly competitive environment. The event schedule promises non-stop action, with both men's and women's categories showcasing their skills.
Spectators can expect a thrilling display of flips, tricks, and gravity-defying stunts as athletes vie for the top spot and a chance to represent Canada on the global stage.
A day before the main event, on February 21 at 2 p.m., the skatepark will also host a Community Day. The event is dedicated to nurturing young talent and encouraging community involvement in skateboarding. It's an opportunity for aspiring skateboarders to learn from seasoned pros and build connections.
At 4:30 p.m., the SheCANSk8 program will offer a supportive and inclusive environment for women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ skateboarders. It's an opportunity to meet pros and get tailored coaching.
The whole showcase is your chance to see future Olympians in action, and who knows, you might even be inspired to try a kickflip or two.
