Police say they discovered the situation while responding to a report of "disturbance" in the area of Victoria Street North on September 27.

An adult male and an adult female, both from Montreal have been arrested and charged with Human Trafficking offences.

Waterloo Regional Police 

"As a result of the investigation, it was learned that a female victim from Montreal was being trafficked," police wrote in a statement.

"An adult male and an adult female, both from Montreal have been arrested and charged with Human Trafficking offences."

Police also urge residents to "be vigilant of signs of Human Trafficking."

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking outlines over two dozen such signs on its website.

Statistics Canada says that "in the past decade, there have been more than 1,700 incidents of human trafficking reported by Canadian police services, and almost all of the victims were women or girls."

"Human trafficking is a criminal offence under several sections of the Criminal Code," according to the RCMP.
