A giant paper mache piggy bank was put up in downtown Montreal's Place de la Paix on Tuesday night by local activist group DefundTheSPVM "to support defunding the SPVM" and to look at ways "Tiohti:áke can reinvest this money into community supports," according to a Facebook event.

The "Piggy Bank Project" is an interactive display that invites people to write their own ideas on how to reinvest police funding in Montreal.

It already appears to be covered in Post-its.

Activists have been critical of the city's public safety budget for 2021, which increased the SPVM budget by over $14 million.

It's not yet clear how long the giant piggy bank will remain at the park. MTL Blog has reached out to both the activist group and the SPVM and will update this article with responses.
