We'll miss you, Dollar Ronald!
A beloved low-cost general store and family business in Montreal is closing its doors after 21 years. Until that fateful day next month, Hochelaga's Dollar Ronald is holding a mega closing sale with half-priced goods.
Food is 25% off and everything else — such as items for the home, parties, DIY and crafts — is 50% off, according to You Aun Oun who owns Dollar Ronald with Peng Try Be.
In a May meeting of the National Assembly of Quebec, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve MNA Alexandre Leduc thanked the couple for their "contribution and dedication to our neighbourhood for so many years."
"Originally from Cambodia, the two owners have operated the family business almost single-handedly for the past two decades [...] This kind of accessible, local business is essential in a neighbourhood like Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, especially on Sainte-Catherine Street," said Leduc.
Leduc said the couple decided to retire after the building's owner did not renew the lease due to "real estate speculation." In other words, an opportunity to buy low and sell high.
Oun told MTL Blog she plans to "put the keys in the door" in one month, around mid-September.
