An Anti-Gentrification Group Has Put Together A Handy Website For Montreal Renters

A handy new website for Montreal renters called "Refuse Your Rent Hike!" aims to bring awareness to the fact that Montrealers have the legal right to refuse any unreasonable rent hikes by landlords

This resource includes a rent hike increase calculator, concise instructions on how to go about calculating your rent hike, and even links to rent advocacy resources.

The website, created by the Cœur de l'Île advocacy group, is just one of many resources that the group is planning to offer on its website. 

"We're really seeing an unprecedented number of stories about evictions and rent hikes, so we really seem to be in this acute crisis [...] this is really what spurred us into action," said a Cœur de l'Île organizer, who wished to remain anonymous. 

"[Landlords] are counting on us not knowing our rights, not having this information so they can get away with no lease transfers, with not doing any repairs, with jacking up the rents. [...] These manipulation tactics make it seem like you don't have a choice."
