Montreal police are investigating after a six-year-old girl was assaulted with a weapon at around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.

She's now in critical condition.

A 36-year-old woman was also brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators are still on the scene to analyze it and try to understand the circumstances of this event.
