Canadian Tourists Can’t Travel To These 7 Countries — Even If They’re Fully Vaccinated
Canada's border measures have changed, giving fully vaccinated Canadian tourists the chance to finally head out on that trip you've been dreaming of.
Despite travel rules being more relaxed now, that doesn't necessarily mean Canadians can travel just anywhere.
In addition to the many countries with travel warnings issued by the Government of Canada, Kayak has determined there are over 30 countries who have their borders closed to Canadians and other tourists.
The federal government has since gone on to share an array of sources regarding travel restriction and health guidelines put forth by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that Canadians can utilise to see just where they can and can't travel to.
So, to make things a smidge easier for anyone thinking of travelling outside of Canada soon, here are seven countries that currently do no allow tourists to enter its borders.
Japan
On March 1, 2022 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan have implemented a ban on the entry of foreign nationals into Japan for "touristic purposes."
In addition to the entry ban, visa exemption measures for Canada and Canadian travellers have also been suspended as of April 8, 2022.
Solomon Islands
The Solomon Islands also have a handful of entry restrictions per UNWTO and IATA's policies.
According to the government agencies, the only people allowed to visit or enter into the Solomon Islands are nationals of the Solomon Islands and passengers with approval from the Oversight Committee.
Samoa
A state of emergency was imposed in Samoa as of May 4, 2022 that now required international borders to remain closed until further notice.
At the moment, all international flights to and from Samoa are not allowed. However, the country's tourism board stated that the border is expected to reopen in August or September of this year.
Thailand
According to the UNWTO and IATA, the only people currently allowed to enter Thai borders are nationals and residents of Thailand. Additionally, spouses, parents or children of nationals can also enter the country.
Despite Thailand being a hot spot for tourists, the country is enforcing strict measures to ensure the safety of its citizens.
While nationals and their dependents can enter Thailand, any airline crew with a schedule return flight and folks who are visa-exempt or have a visa issued by Thailand can also enter the country. These measures are set to be in place up until May 31, 2022.
China
The UNWTO and IATA have stated that the entry of foreign nationals holding a visa is currently suspended in China. So, if you were planning on visiting some of the great sights the country has to offer, you'll have to wait a bit more.
New Zealand
Who doesn't want to be one amongst the Kiwi? Well, not everyone can right now.
Entry into New Zealand from all countries across the globe is currently being controlled to mitigate the COVID-19 situation.
People allowed into New Zealand are citizens, permanent residents or resident visa holders, partner or dependent child of a citizen or residents with working and student visas.
In October 2022, the New Zealand border is expected to reopen and Canadians should be able to apply for visas as they would normally pre-pandemic.
Tonga
In line with the policies put forth by the UNWTO and IATA, the only people who are currently allowed to enter Tonga are Tonga nationals, permanent residents of Tonga and passengers who have been granted approval from the Minister of Health and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Sorry Canadians, you'll have to wait to visit Tonga for now!
