Strawberry fields forever? Well, for three days at least. In August, Quebec farmland becomes a tasty tableau of reds and pinks as fields burst with juicy, ready-to-pick fruit.

From August 18 to 20, Festifraîches is pairing the sweet tang of strawberries and raspberries with the joy of a country fair. But before you let visions of sun-dappled berry bushes fill your imagination, there are also pop-up mini-markets, tasting booths and exclusive workshops by celebrated local chefs.

Montreal hot dogs aren't just an affordable late-night snack, they're also a local speciality — steamies, or steamé, are uniquely Quebecois. The street food dates back to the early 1940s when Montreal saw a period of rapid urbanization and many Quebecers moved to the city from rural areas to find work. Hot dog stands began to pop up, offering a convenient and inexpensive snack that could be eaten quickly and easily, which made them popular with factory workers.

Montreal's food truck event of the summer rolls onto the grounds of the Olympic Stadium in just over three weeks with a selection of meals on wheels to delight your palate. Canada's largest gathering of food trucks, Les Premiers Vendredis, takes place on the first Friday of each month between June and October. You'll be able to pick from nearly 50 participating trucks during this year's 10th edition.

The line-up for the festival's grand opening on June 3 will be extra spicy, giving new meaning to the phrase hot wheels, with eight featured Mexican food trucks to get your mouth watering. Try the quesadillas from AriZ5, loaded nachos from Mad Mexican, authentic burritos from Arriba Burrito, homemade guac from Calaveras, all-vegetarian options from Mi Corazon Food Truck Végétalien, marinated salads from MASA cuisine de rue & traiteur, Tex-Mex tacos from Andros El Tacos, or fresh tamales from Lili Et Gordo.

A new smorgasbord-style market with "ephemeral terrasses, cultural pop-ups and musical entertainment" is coming to the banks of the Lachine Canal in Griffintown over the course of three weekends, beginning on July 31 and August 1.

The event name, Sudbest, perfectly captures the goal of the event. Organizers call it the Sud-Ouest's "largest commercial revival initiative," bringing forward as many of the borough's merchants, artists and artisans as possible.
