Canada may be known for its warm hospitality and friendly vibes, but according to a new global ranking, none of our cities are quite welcoming enough to scratch the top 10 friendliest in the world for 2024.

In this year's Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards, not a single Canadian spot earned a place in the ranking of friendliest cities in the world — a stark contrast to last year, when Canadian cities absolutely dominated, snagging four spots in the top five. So, what changed?

Canadians are known for being polite and it seems as if the stereotype isn't too far from being true. Condé Nast Traveler recently ranked the most friendly cities in the world, and Canada completely dominated the list. In fact, four Canadian cities made the cut, all of which were included in the top five.

Condé Nast Traveler released the winners of its annual Reader's Choice Awards, highlighting the best of the best in travel and hospitality, and Canada gained some much-deserved recognition.

Canada is known for being a friendly and welcoming country, and it turns out we've got the numbers to back it up. A recent study measuring the world's friendliest cities for non-residents dropped, and Montreal and Toronto managed to not only secure a spot on the list, but also rank in the top 10.

Preply, a language learning app and e-learning platform, is behind the ranking of 53 cities. The learning language service analyzed six metrics to compile the list: visitor return rates, safety ratings, LGBTQ+ equality, ease of communicating through a common language, community respect and overall happiness.
