The most friendly cities in the world were ranked and three Canadian spots managed to make the cut.
Insider Monkey, an investing website that tracks the movements of corporate insiders and hedge funds, released its list of the 30 Friendliest Cities In The World and Montreal was close to making it in the top 10.
To determine the ranking, Insider Monkey utilized a consensus opinion-based ranking approach. The online investing platform gathered information from relevant Reddit threads, where users shared their experiences and which cities stood out as destinations where tourists felt welcomed.
Each city received a score based on the number of mentions, so each time a city was mentioned, it received a score of one. Consequently, the more mentions and references, the higher the score and overall rank.
So, where did we land on the ranking? Montreal ranked 11th overall — proving itself to be one of the most welcoming cities across the globe.
"Montreal, located in the province of Quebec, Canada, is safe and open to diversity, making it a perfect place for newcomers to thrive," Insider Monkey noted.
Toronto also made the list, ranking fifth overall, while Calgary topped the list as the friendliest city in the world. It's often believed that Canadians are among the most polite people in the world, so three Canadian cities appearing on the ranking isn't that big a surprise.
