Montreal's Jacques Cartier Bridge Would Get Huge Elevators & Lookouts Under This Plan (VIDEO)

It currently takes about 40 minutes by foot to get from the (approximate) shore of Montreal's Centre-Sud neighbourhood to the western shore of Île Sainte-Hélène via the Jacques Cartier Bridge. A proposal to plop an elevator on either side of the bridge would reduce the journey to just over 10 minutes.

Les AmiEs du courant Sainte-Marie, an organization that advocates for better access to the river for residents of Ville-Marie, is putting forward the plan as one way to both improve the pedestrian link to Parc Jean-Drapeau and capitalize on views from the iconic bridge.

You Can Take $6 'Bike Shuttles' From Montreal To Cycling Paths Across The River This Summer

The borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles is partnering with the suburbs of Repentigny and Varennes to offer "bike shuttles" across the river this summer. The annual program allows cyclists to explore parks and bike paths at the tip of Montreal Island and on the North and South Shores.

The shuttle boats will make five trips daily between the Antoine-Beaudry house in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, the Parc de la Commune in Varennes and the Parc Saint-Laurent in Repentigny.

Montreal Is Getting Another Beach For Swimming In The River

Montreal is getting another beach. On Sunday, Mayor Valérie Plante announced a commitment to open the shore of the Promenade-Bellerive, a riverside park in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, to swimming.

A Massive New Beach Near Downtown Montreal Is Part Of A New Proposal (VIDEO)

There's a proposal to build a massive new beach in Montreal along the Saint Lawrence River in the Ville-Marie neighbourhood of Sainte-Marie.

The beach would sit just north of the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Montrealers would be able to access it from the Parc du Pied-du-Courant via a universally accessible, 60-metre elevated walkway over the CP and Port of Montreal tracks that, right now, form a barrier between the water and neighbourhood.
