Quebec police will be patrolling the highways and streets this next week in order to "take intensive action against drivers who violate the Highway Safety Code," according to a press release shared with Narcity and MTL Blog.

Operation VITESSE (speed), taking place between June 11 and 17, is a collaboration between police forces, including the SPVM and Sûreté du Québec (SQ), and the SAAQ, who say that the pandemic has led to more dangerous road behaviour.

A new study by the Institut de la statistique du Québec breaks down the percentage of Quebecers who smoke cigarettes versus the percentage who vape. Did you know that the percentage of Quebecers aged 25 to 34 who smoke cigarettes is three times higher than the percentage that vapes? 

In all, 13,553 Quebecers aged 15 and older answered the survey, conducted on behalf of the health ministry between July and November 2020.

Oka National Park in Quebec announced on Facebook that it would be limiting its maximum capacity to 750 people today after evacuating masses of beach-goers on May 19.

Simon Boivin, media relations manager for the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (SÉPAQ), told Narcity Québec that while the official opening of the beach was scheduled for May 22, the park was able to provide supervision and open earlier.

A viral video depicting Quebec's very own 'Billy Karaoke' interrupting Premier François Legault's press conference has made waves on social media — but as it turns out, it's not real. At least, according to the government, it's not.

The video, published on Billy's Instagram on May 12, has garnered over 28,000 views. It shows him replacing the Quebec Sign Language (QSL) interpreter and singing karaoke — albeit muted — while someone tries to forcibly remove him.

During a press conference announcing sweeping changes to Quebec's French-language charter, Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette called for "an end" to "institutional bilingualism" in Quebec, which he suggested has become "widespread" in the State apparatus.

"The protection and enhancement of the French language must become a matter for the State," he said at a Thursday press conference. "French must be the language of administration, of course, but also of legislation and justice."
