Yet another record has been broken for the daily COVID-19 cases in Quebec. On Wednesday, December 22, the Government of Quebec reported 6,361 new cases, a jump of 1,318 from yesterday's daily case count.

In Wednesday's data, 445 total hospitalizations were recorded — up 30 from the day prior — with 88 of those patients in intensive care.

Though the numbers are down a bit from yesterday, Quebec's daily COVID-19 case count is still soaring. On Saturday, the province reported its second-highest number of new cases since the start of the pandemic while hospitalizations saw their largest spike in almost a year.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services reported 3,631 new cases on December 18. It also recorded 347 hospitalizations, up 35 since the day prior — the biggest daily increase since January 11, 2021, when hospitalizations went up by 61. Seventy-four of those patients were in the ICU.

Quebec COVID-19 hospitalizations rose significantly yesterday, provincial data on December 14 shows, with a net increase of 25 hospitalizations in the last 24 hours — the largest daily jump since April 16, when hospitalizations rose by 28.

The province reported 293 people in hospital, of which 47 were new entries, while 22 people were discharged. There are currently 75 individuals in intensive care in Quebec, a net increase of two from the previous day.

Quebec reported 1,807 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest count in ages and a big jump from the Wednesday report's 1,367. And all this just a few days after the Quebec government announced it's relaxing holiday gathering rules. Yikes?

In some ways, big yikes. The daily new case count last exceeded 1,800 on April 9, 2021, according to Quebec Health Ministry data. Before that, it was during the pandemic’s second wave in January, when new cases were beginning to fall after peaking above 2,800 per day.
