Slush. The scent of long-buried dog poop. Mushy Tim Hortons litter. So much gravel. It's spring in Montreal, and the weather forecast is starting to reflect it. The seven-day outlook shows a volatile mix of conditions with temperatures finally — occasionally — shooting up, even pushing double-digits (both positive and negative. But we're focusing on the positive.).

The highest temperatures of the week are forecast for Wednesday, March 29, and Saturday, April 1: 8 C and 9 C, respectively, per Environment Canada. Those would be the warmest days of the year so far.

2023 will start off wet and unseasonably warm, according to Environment Canada. Whether it's mere happenstance, a harbinger of impending climate doom or a portent of a gloomy twelve months ahead, the New Year's Day Montreal weather likely won't help residents' anxiousness about 2023. Cold Montreal Temperatures Broke Records In January — Here's The Outlook For February

The weather in January has been, well, a lot. Despite less-than-average snowfall, Montreal hit record-breaking low, low temperatures, with added wind-chill to boot. This was caused by the jet stream, which brought cold air to most of Eastern Canada.

According to Environment Canada meteorologist André Cantin, we hit record-breaking lows, "not for the whole month — for some days during the month. It's not the coldest January [on record]. We can qualify this January of 2022 as very cold compared to normal but it's not something we've never seen." That said, it was the coldest January in many years: "We have to go back to 2004 for a January similar to the one that we had this year."
