Thousands of Bell Canada customers across the country experienced widespread internet outages today, May 21, 2025, with major disruptions reported from coast to coast.

According to Downdetector, a popular user report database, the majority of issues are related to landline internet, total blackouts, and mobile data services. Over 130,000 Bell customers reported outages in the last 24 hours.

As of 10 a.m. ET, the locations with the most reports were Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Brampton, Halifax, and Mississauga.

Bell Support acknowledged the issue on social media, posting the following update at 9:52 a.m. ET:

"Some customers in Ontario and Quebec may be experiencing an Internet service interruption. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience."

Bell issued an apology less than two hours later, confirming that service had been fully restored by 11 a.m.

"Bell conducted an update that impacted some of our routers," the company's support team explained in an X post.

Meanwhile, many customers took to X to voice their frustration with the outage.

Multiple people reported not being able to reach the company's customer service department this morning.

One user speculated that a cyber attack was the cause.

Another was thankful for the chance to skip out on work meetings.

Bell says customers still experiencing issues should try rebooting their modem by unplugging it "and then plugging it back in after a couple of minutes."

They are also encouraged to log in to MyBell for personalized updates or to follow @Bell_Support on X for the latest information.

If you're affected, you can report your issue and monitor live updates on Downdetector's Bell Canada page.
