For most working Canadians, "good pay" gets measured against one number: $68,700, the average annual salary across the country, or roughly $1,333 a week (according to data from Statistics Canada via Boundless HQ).

Everything else tends to get judged relative to that baseline.

Grocery prices haven't exactly been trending in a helpful direction lately, so any way to save a bit on the essentials is worth a look. If a Costco membership has been on your radar, there's a solid reason to actually pull the trigger right now. A current promotion is refunding a big chunk of what a new membership costs, paid out as an online voucher.

There's a catch, though. This deal is only open to people who aren't already Costco members, or whose membership has been expired for at least 18 months, and renewals don't qualify at all.

f you've got an convertible car seat at home, it's worth checking the model number before your next drive. Transport Canada added a new recall to its Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database on July 20, covering more than 6,200 seats sold across the country.

The recall applies to Evenflo REO convertible car seats, manufactured by Goodbaby between February 2025 and June 2026. According to Transport Canada, the adjustable headrest on these seats could shift position during a crash when the seat is installed forward-facing and the headrest is set to position 10 or 11. Canadian regulations require the headrest to stay fixed in place during an impact, and a headrest that moves during a collision raises the risk of injury.

A few of the government payments are also arriving at higher amounts than they were in the spring, since July marked the start of a new benefit year for several federal programs.

Renewing a passport in Canada just got a bit less painful, at least on paper. Immigration Minister Lena Diab announced on Tuesday that online passport renewal is now open to all eligible adult Canadians, with the daily cap on applications lifted for good.

The online option has technically existed for a couple of years now, but the most recent version of the service was still limited to 2,000 applications a day. As of this week, that ceiling is gone, and the government expects up to two million applications could end up qualifying now that the door's wide open.
