In a press conference on Friday, Health Minister Christian Dubé asked all Quebecers "to limit our contacts [...] for the next 28 days." He explained Thursday that the measure could "break" the second wave of COVID-19 in Quebec. He added the 28-day stipulation, he said, to "encourage people to understand that, yes, this is an additional effort, but there can be an end" to it.

"It's for one month. It's not permanent," he reiterated.

What we're asking you to do is make a special effort to limit contacts.

He specifically called for an end to "dinners with friends at home, BBQs [and] parties."

His plea comes as the number of new COVID-19 cases in Quebec continues to climb.

Officials have also added the entire Montreal metropolitan community (CMM) to the list of areas in "orange alert" according to the province's COVID-19 alert system.

Dubé said the changes demonstrate the seriousness of the situation. He also singled out Montreal as particularly "worrying."

Quebec reported 637 new cases for September 24, officially surpassing 70,000 total cases
