Quebec Premier François Legault took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the progression of a potential vaccine against COVID-19.

On Monday, November 9, American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German biotechnology company BioNTech announced that the phase 3 trial of their vaccine "has demonstrated evidence of efficacy against COVID-19 in participants without prior evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection."

According to the press release, the vaccine has shown evidence of being "more than 90% effective" as of Sunday, November 8.

Phase 3 of the trial began on Monday, July 27.

Although many seem excited about this news, Premier Legault reminded Quebecers that the pandemic could still go on for quite some time.

In his tweet, Legault wrote, "The fact that research for a vaccine is progressing this much is good news, but the battle is far from won."

"We will have to live with the virus for several more months. We must not let up in our efforts to limit transmission. Let's not give up!"

According to the World Health Organization, "There are currently more than 100 COVID-19 vaccine candidates under development, with a number of these in the human trial phase."
